Glenmore Lodge is the Sport Scotland centre for mountain rescue training at Aviemore in the heart of the Cairngorms. The centre is spread over a large 'campus style' location with a main building and multiple outbuildings in a rural setting.

When updating their telephone system to an LG-Ericsson IPECS IP system, it became clear that that the old standard (Copper) wiring would not support IP telephony. Additionally, specific to the rural location, the desire to have reliable broadband in some of the outbuilding was limited by the quality of the copper (signal strength deteriorates over longer distance).

Solution – link all buildings back to the main building using a multi-mode fibre optic cable using Cisco PoE (power over Ethernet) network switches. This allowed all outlying areas to operate at the same level as the main building due to the quality and performance of fibre optic cabling. The solution was further optimised by re-using the copper links between buildings to connect analogue devices such as payphones, cordless phones and modems. These devices require a lower bandwidth cable to operate effectively.

Cabling and Data Networking

We provide a range of cabling solutions to meet all technical and budgetary requirements. In addition, to complement our telephone systems and network cabling, we also offer a range of LAN switches, ADSL routers and Wireless LAN (WLAN) device's.

Cabling infrastructure is critical to every telephone and IT system. Without a good quality data cabling system, organisations can struggle to have reliable systems that cope with a changing business environment. Never has this been truer than with the advent of IP or VoIP telephony where telephones systems can share the same infrastructure as IT systems.

Intellia take care to design data cabling solutions relevant to a customer's technical and budgetary needs, In particular, those for Category 5 enhanced (or CAT 5e) and Category 6 (CAT6). Installations of CAT5e and CAT 6 cabling are tested to relevant standards and test results provided on completion.

With larger cabling systems or where more data needs to be transmitted faster, the value of fibre optic cabling increases. Whether used to cover distances further than those covered by CAT 5e or CAT 6 or to link buildings across a multi-building or 'campus' style location, fibre optic cabling offers a reliable cost-effective solution.

We can install internal or external Fibre optic cabling in either multi or single mode, designed to meet your requirements and budget.

Standard (copper) telephone cabling has been improved upon many times since first introduced. However, many buildings still have extensive standard cabling and indeed, newer networks may still have a need to combine standard cabling with more advanced network cabling.

Standard cabling is used with older types of phone systems and often to connect devices such as cordless handsets, franking machines, external bells, door entry to name a few.

Even if you only need a single telephone point moved or several new standard telephone points to be wired
